We came together without the original intention of making music. We all met at different points, but mostly at the freeform radio station we were all involved in, and as friends for quite some time first. Laura and Steve had played together in a different band that had stopped playing when half the band moved. Eventually, we all started playing music in this configuration, and it stuck. There were many jams in the storage basement unit for the station called "The Cage".
The first Sleep Tight Tiger show came about when Ruby was about to leave to study abroad, and we thought it would be funny to play a single show before breaking up: a one-night-only affair. The band settled on the name The Goopies and we played one show in 2023. About a year later, we were asked to reprise the band for a fundraiser for the aforementioned radio station. In 2025, The Goopies had their comeback, and played a couple of shows and wrote a couple of songs! We recorded our debut EP, mixed by our good friend Evan Courtney, at the end of the year
In 2026, we decided to change our name to Sleep Tight Tiger (stylized as St Tiger in our calendars) because we feel more serious about having fun in our band. And also we never really loved our name in the first place, so thinking about having music released under the name was not super appealing. We are so excited to see where we go with this, and how we grow together. This is, after all, a band fueled by love and friendship.
